Battery cycle life is the number of complete charge and discharge cycles a battery can undergo before its capacity drops below a usable threshold, typically used to specify warranty periods and expected lifespan.

A battery cycle consists of one complete charge from empty to full and one complete discharge back to empty. Manufacturers rate cycle life as the point at which battery capacity falls to 70 or 80 percent of its original output, depending on the technology and product design. This degradation happens over time as internal chemical reactions wear down the battery's ability to store and deliver energy.

Cycle life directly affects how long a solar battery will perform reliably in a Perth home or business. A battery rated at 6000 cycles, for example, may last 10 to 15 years in typical residential use where it is charged and discharged daily.
